NADINE IJEWERE

Nadine Ijewere,  a London-born photographer of Nigerian-Jamaican parentage, has developed a mission statement of showcasing the beauty and versatility of black women. “I started taking pictures because when I looked through fashion publications, I didn't really see anyone that looked like me or anyone that had my hair, my texture,” she explains. “My question was: How come there is only one specific type of beauty? It makes you feel bad because you're not fitting in, but everyone should be celebrated.”

Her personal projects delve further into representing youth and identity with authenticity channeled through elements of the ethereal, statuesque and nostalgia. The attentive explorations of identity are sometimes fused with playful touches of fantasy in real-world environments.
