DANIEL JACK LYONS

American photographer, Daniel Jack Lyons has lived in Mozambique off and on since 2005.

He uses his camera to find moments of equanimity and to focus on individuals rather than their circumstances, giving his subjects agency in revealing themselves. From his portraits of Mozambique’s vilified LGBT+ community to his images of displaced Ukranian youth throughout the Russian military occupation, Daniel’s work confronts you with the reality of a situation without undermining its subjects or the story behind it.

His process is informed by professional experience in human rights work and documentary portraiture. This is meant both to honor their strength and resilience, and reveal a shared current of human emotion that connects the subject and viewer.
