ANNEMARIE SCHWARZENBACH

Annemarie was a Swiss writer, photographer and journalist today almost completely forgotten, but she had a very intense, albeit very short, life. Androgynous, openly lesbian and traveler, she rebelled against the austere environment in which she grew up, choosing an adventure novel existence for herself, unfortunately broken by a tragic accident.

She was a style icon who reinterpreted the aesthetic ideal of life as a form of art in a decadent key, in which sublime and dissolution were combined.

By all accounts, she was enigmatic yet alluring. Looking back at photos of her, one can easily see why. At a time when it was still socially unacceptable for women to wear pants, she stood out with short hair and a wardrobe largely comprised of menswear.
